Uzbekistan grants citizenship to 50,000 stateless people with new law
50,000 people in Uzbekistan will be granted citizenship under a new law that comes into force on 1st April 2020. Mr. Marin Roman, Regional Protection Officer for the UNHCR in Central Asia, describes the impact of this law on the lives of stateless people in Uzbekistan and their children. Mr. Roman has been instrumental in driving change in the region as part of the UNHCR I-Belong campaign to tackle statelessness.
